A deeper dive into 1ov1kay and his new song ‘WYG’
1ov1kay is an intriguing artist I found recently. His newest song “WYG” is set to drop this Friday on all streaming platforms, and it’s interesting because his last song, ‘Rollin,’ the only one out on all platforms and his Youtube, came out a whopping 6 years ago back in June of 2019.
‘WYG’ is his return to music, and it’s a sound that I can definitely endorse. The sound of this song reminds me of an ambience that artists like Lil Tecca aim to achieve in their music. Overall, his music definitely follows in the same lane of those melodic artists, which is something that I personally think is lacking in music more than ever today as the sound of the underground has diversified and especially taken on ‘rage more than ever before.

I love using the world “ethereal” to describe songs but that is exactly what this song gives off to me. Personally, my favorite part is when the drums cut out and you can hear the atmospheric adlibs really take place as 1ov1kay croons over the track and goes deeper into the lyrics surrounding his lost or fading love.
It’s definitely an emotional song if you can interpret it within that way, and although that’s something that you don’t typically see from the underground too much nowadays, it’s something that I can absolutely appreciate from the curator’s standpoint.
