This artist is bringing back authenticity to rap…

One of the most exciting artists that we’ve seen coming out of the underground scene as of recently is Boot Raymond. Hailing from North Carolina at only 16 years old, however, you’d never guess it from how thoughtful and introspective his music already is. He recently dropped his new EP titled, “Dear summer…”, which is full of emotion, reflection, and raw talent.

The lead single, track 1 titled, “ether?” really sets the tone for the project. It’s got that same kind of authentic, raw flow that you’d hear from someone like Earl Sweatshirt, but Boot adds his own twist to it. His delivery is calm but focused, and he knows how to get vulnerable and lay his true emotion out on a track. “ether?” features production that contains a sort of dusty, lo-fi vibe. This kind of production provides Boot with room to float over the beat and let the lyrics shine. It feels just like a journal entry turned into a track.

Another standout track off the EP is “Im positive on sundays”. This track really shows Boot’s range. It’s one of the more upbeat songs off the project, but it still carries that same reflective tone that runs through the whole project. The title alone feels like a glimpse into Boot’s mind.

His delivery on this one is smooth and conversational, like he’s just talking to the listener, letting the words flow naturally. The beat is warm and soulful, giving the track that mellow feeling. Then there’s “faded,” another single from his discography, which features talented artist Mary Sue. That track also has that smooth, super reflective vibe. Mary Sue’s part fits perfectly, and together they create an emotional atmosphere that really pulls you in.

What makes this project even better is the visual side of it. The cover art and still visuals by @who.azan are beautifully done, and feel super raw and surreal, which matches the tone of the music perfectly. As well as the animated visuals from @charle_musset that add even more depth, bringing Boot’s world to life in such a unique way. It is evident that a lot of thought went into this project as a whole, and that goes for all the rest of Boot’s work as well. For an artist so young, Boot Raymond is already making music that feels honest, fully formed, and ahead of its time. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Go listen to “Dear Summer…” and “faded” out now!
