Vulnerability in pop rap is always a beautiful combination. It’s infectious enough to vibe to, easy to get in the feels with, and memorable because of that bleeding honesty. Indigenous artist NorthSideBaby has been bringing those nighttime feels with the bops he’s been rolling out, and this year, there’s a hint of a new direction too.
On his debut album NORTHSIDEBABY, the pop rap energy is loud and clear. It’s melodic and punchy at the same time, catching glimpses of Ty Dolla Sign, D-Block Europe, and Boogie, like walking into a house party already ready to turn it up. It’s built around catchiness, paced like a set of tracks made to hit first and linger after.
NorthSideBaby is turning feelings all the way up…
“LIGHT$ N CAMERA$” stands out because it shows how even this lane leaves room for emotion. The “more fame, more problems” narrative still lands as a bop, but it carries weight underneath. Heartbreak, roots, and pride collide across the project like one running story, and that sentimental edge is clearest on the wavy “THE NORTH”. His high and deep vocal pitches make it feel like he’s switching between confidence and lows while going all in, grounded in his identity throughout.
His recent single “CANT LIVE WITHOUT ME” flips the backdrop, putting rage front and centre, but keeping the honesty intact. Self-produced, it leans into the tension between laid back vocals and heavy 808s, like an unfiltered “I made it” philosophy. The distortions and flashy, psychedelic visuals push it into a modern, emo-tinged space with trap roots intact. Whatever pivot he takes, the feelings are here to stay, and that’s what keeps it replayable: there’s space to find yourself in his music.
