Your new favorite R&B artist: Spencer Diamond
2024 has been a monumental year for new RnB artists, with the emergence of names such as Tommy Richman, Chase Shakur and Avenoir. Tons of new faces have brought their unique flair to the genre. Among these artists is Spencer Diamond, an upcoming RnB artist based in Lexington, Kentucky.
With only 15k monthly listeners on Spotify, Spencer Diamond is a new face in the budding new generation of artists. Developing a unique sound, he’s a vibrant artist who will make waves within the scene. I went into listening to Spencer’s discography blind, but I was pleasantly surprised. As a huge RnB fan, I am waiting for the day this man gets his flowers. Let’s dive into a few tracks from Spencer Diamond that you should add to your RnB playlist.
One of my favorite tracks by him is “Safe,” which reminds me a lot of Daniel Caesar and Childish Gambino This track resembles lyricism that I would hear in Caesar’s “CASE STUDY 01” while production-wise, it reminds me a lot of “Awaken, My Love,” by Gambino. I feel like those two comparisons alone help define Diamond’s sound. He’s genuinely an artist I know will flourish in this industry.
Another track I enjoyed listening to was, “Hurt B4” which he released in March. This one is more of a sensual, typical RnB track that gives off the same vibes as Bryson Tiller’s “Exchange” release from 2015. This one is a favorite because it showcases his versatility. I’m all for the very artistic sound of Childish Gambino, but there’s always a part of me that will always love that “fuckboy”-esque of Bryson Tiller’s sound. There’s also a bit of jersey club-like drums nearing the end of the track, which I thought was an incredibly cool touch. This blend alone will always have a spot in my heart.
Spencer Diamond carries this sonic blend that I can’t quite describe. He is the blend between Childish Gambino, Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd, and Daniel Caesar. All of his tracks evoke the same emotions that these artists do when you listen to them. His producers have also done an incredible job with their track creations, pairing Spencer’s vocals with beats that mesh well with each other. It’s inevitable to hear tracks where the beats don’t make sense with lyrics, which doesn’t give the artist justice. Kudos to Spencer’s team for recognizing and evoking the ambiance you’d want to be in when you listen to his tracks.
There’s something special about Spencer Diamond, and his artistic progression is one to watch. He’s created music comparable to some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop and RNB, you know he can make it big. It’s always refreshing to see new names and be able to showcase their journey early on. His current discography is filled with bangers and I cannot wait to see what Spencer Diamond cooks up next.
